That’s the sound of the fire trunk’s siren going off because Elizabeth Banks is on FIRE! Ya gotta give me credit for attempting the sound, right? …right?

We love Elizabeth’s (yes, we’re on a first name basis) black and gold Versace look! For our living room inspiration, we decided to make it a bit more heavy on the gold than the black. The contrast between the matte black and shiny gold really pops.

This look is very edgy and Bad A**, so our room has that feel as well – metals and animals print, linear and curved lines, and I can’t forget to mention a foot and a head!

Don’t forget to click the image above to check out where you can buy each of these items and get this look in your home!

It’s cool and feminine all the while warm and inviting, just like a mother should be. The soft touch of the brass table, the sweet hint of a modern lace in the side chairs, and the blue green color, because she let me pick it. Ok, I’m getting a little emotional. Click the image and see the product details!

Enjoy your Mother’s Day Weekend – I know I am, my mom is flying to Chicago from Charleston (South Carolina, god no, not West Virginia), to visit.

Point is, I love lighting and I want to show you some of the awesome contemporary chandeliers that we have recently discovered. A few of the pieces are on the higher end of anyone’s budget, but they sure are pretty to look at!

So, remember a few months ago when I took over the Savvy Blog with the intension of talking about the redesign of Donna’s house and what pains we designers go through when designing our own spaces!?!?? Well, one, we’ve been so busy with other people’s things (i.e. our awesome clients!) and two, things just take time!

A backorder here, a backorder there, a contractor here, an electrician there… you get the idea.

Good News: Donna’s powder room has been completed!

First of all, don’t even ask me how our photographer took that picture without getting his reflection in the mirror, and second of all, don’t you love how over-the-top this small space is? The average powder room is a mere 3 feet by about 6 feet. By adding this large patterned wall covering (with applied crystals, no less) a large amount of interest is created by making what would seem to be a small space much more extensive. The darker plum color and crystal touches are feminine, while the rich wood tones create a masculine appeal.

Don’t be afraid to step outside of your comfort zone – go over the top and dramatic!

So, I know you’ve all heard me say it 47 times, but things in my house are constantly changing and I’m always looking to diy. I recently painted, and by painted, I meant re-painted our master bedroom. It’s an awesome dark navy. With the new paint job came new art for above the bed and the removal of the previously existing art wall. I was left with quite a few pieces of art and not too many places left in the condo to put them.

I ended up putting a large vintage poster in our small guest bathroom. In the words of Carrie Bradshaw, it got me wondering about large pieces of art in small spaces. Art always has an impact, but when it’s large and the space is small, the art can quickly become the room. Check out these awesome rooms with massive works of art:

(Above: dark walls and a large Buddha head create such a dramatic impact in such a small space.)

(Above: This rooms is small and loaded wall to wall with furniture. The large tryptic art in the background really creates a focal point which easily seems to elongate the room.)

(Above: nothing says bathroom like floor, wall, AND ceiling tile. The tile is already creating such a dramatic impact, then by adding the mosaic tile art, your eye changes focus allowing the impact of the tile to become secondary to the bold art)

(Above: ok, you got me, this isn’t a small space, but the art installation sure is BIG! …and tall! If you have high ceilings, try to bring focus to them by taking use of the veritcal space. This will reduce the wasted air space)

My advice: everyone says painting a small room dark will make it looks smaller – NO! dramatic. In the same light, hanging large art in a small space creates drama. Take a risk. Like Nike says: Just do it!

Later,
